gazmech Posted June 24, 2013 Report Posted June 24, 2013 Right. Airbag light came on awhile ago I was told it was the squib as it is a common thing, so only just had the chance to buy one and fitted it today. After fitting it put it all back together and turned on ignition light went out and came straight back on again. Don't know what else to do except put it on a computer. As always it boils down to money also doesn't help mot in July other things to do to it tyres, abs light, welding and number plate. Can anybody else think of what else it could be? Don't want to replace the whole system. Thanks Quote
seatkid Posted June 24, 2013 Report Posted June 24, 2013 Airbag light faults need to be reset by diagnostics or VAGCOM/VCDS IIRC. Quote
gazmech Posted June 28, 2013 Author Report Posted June 28, 2013 Last night I tried to turn light off with vagcom with the vcds-lite program that was recommended on here after doing full system check it came up with "could not connect with controller for the airbag system. Also tried it on seat Alhambra and vw sharan still says the same thing. Quote
ghr Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 (edited) What port have you got it connected to? I use the same setup but these are the things that make it not work: Choosing the right port. My cable has a usb connector to plug in a usb port. If I select the USB option on the V-Lite program set up function it won't connect. I have to use one of my four usb ports on the laptop and select the the com2 port in the V-Lite software. You may need to play around to get the right one. I'm sure you know that the ignition must be on. If it isn't it'll make you to wait for 30 seconds. When you detach the battery negative I'd unplug the cable from the PC before working on it. This may be personal paranoia but the laptop has a battery and my mobile phone still charges via the lapton when the laptop is not connected to its mains adapter. Edited June 28, 2013 by ghr Quote
ghr Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 Daft question but you tried all your PC usb ports? Quote
ghr Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 (edited) Slight veering off topic but you got the airbag out? I've been trying all day and I'm buggered if I can get it to unclip. Do you need to pull at the airbag cover while pushing the clip out the way? Or should it stay unclipped once you've levered it out the way? Edited June 28, 2013 by ghr Quote
gazmech Posted June 28, 2013 Author Report Posted June 28, 2013 Airbag does from under the steering wheel by two torque screws then comes off then pull clip off or prize gently with a small screwdriver. Quote
gazmech Posted June 28, 2013 Author Report Posted June 28, 2013 Yes tried all ports. It does not connect to the airbag controller on the car while running diagnostics. Quote
SilverBeast Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 (i) Does it connect to the other controllers? If so then you have the software running right (ii) Have you checked the fuse box in front of the battery (Battery Junction Box) as I believe there is a fuse for the air bag there? ( From memory so probably wrong). Quote
Argrdnr Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Same issue here, if the airbag light is on, will it be the clock spring or fuse or both? Also with vag com I have the same message. Quote
gazmech Posted July 3, 2013 Author Report Posted July 3, 2013 I have changed the clock spring next try is the module it's self. so it's not just me that has this problem then. Quote
Argrdnr Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Nope not just you ;) I haven't actually started on the airbag light properly yet. I'm hoping its easy enough. The thought of having to remove the airbag is daunting. BAAAANG Quote
gazmech Posted July 3, 2013 Author Report Posted July 3, 2013 Disconnect the battery. It's easy I did it on 20 mins that's putting new one on as well. Quote
Argrdnr Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Ok cool, might give it a try then, gonna have a look. How do I know if it is the clock spring at fault or is it process of elimination? Quote
gazmech Posted July 3, 2013 Author Report Posted July 3, 2013 Just done a continuity test on old clock spring and all works. So cud be some thing else on Mine. Quote
Argrdnr Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Fuse?I can't even get my vag com to talk to the air bag :/ Quote
gazmech Posted July 3, 2013 Author Report Posted July 3, 2013 No nor me. I think it could be the module controller in the centre collum so I have read. In the manual it says that the fuse for the airbag also does other things. Quote
gazmech Posted July 3, 2013 Author Report Posted July 3, 2013 Argrdnr have u got a mobile then i will send u a pic of the diagram for the airbag. Gaz Quote
